In light of a year where a life-altering pandemic took the world by storm, we would like to recognize our students who went above and beyond to help those in our community. Many students have supported the community through their avid participation in voluntary services, organizations, and internships. done service and internships through the school year and beyond.
This year had been exceptionally hard for many people, just about everyone knows someone who has been impacted negatively by COVID-19, but some of our students have worked hard to overcome these difficulties and lend a helping hand to those in need. This month I’d like to highlight those student and give a platform to the different and unique ways they’ve helped our community.
I interviewed some students that are part of the CSL or Center for Servant Leadership about the school year and any challenges they faced; here is one of the more interesting and unique responses.
I asked these students How COVID has impacted their services and experiences and what they did to resolve these challenges. One student, Hannah Martin, discussed how they worked with an origination called Kingsbury Patriot Pups and Ponies, an origination who’s mission it is is to rescue abused and neglected horses and dogs, and connect them with Veterans and others for mutual healing between the two. She talked about how the woman in charge, was grateful for their help as she had been the only one taking care of all the animals, along with a full-time job. Just these times Hannah and others went out to help her kept her afloat and allowed her to keep Patriot Pups and Ponies going this year.
“You can do so much good for other people, but you have a limit.” – Hannah Martin said this when talking about Patriot Pups and Ponies and its a good reminder to take care of both yourself and others, so when you can always lend an extra, helping hand.
