Let’s encourage people to talk so they can be heard.
Don’t worry, TLU is collaborating with the Hi, How Are You Project to make the conversation a little less scary. The Hi How Are You Project (HHAY) is a non-profit organization who seeks to inspire new conversations about mental wellbeing, awareness and education.
You may be familiar with the “Hi, How Are You” Frog mural in downtown Austin. But did you know it was created by the famous artist and musician, Daniel Johnston who suffered from mental illness? The Founders of HHAY; Tom Gimbel and Courtney Blanton fuel the legacy of Daniel Johnston and his goal to end the stigma behind the mental health conversation.
As an organization, they pledge to ask their friends, colleges, family and co-workers, “hi, how are you?” and mean it! By asking these four words, they invite people to open-up about how they are feeling. We are asking the TLU community to join this initiative towards building a supportive community.
Tackling the issues of mental health is a big task to take on. We can do our part by starting small, in common areas, in the classroom and in the workforce. It’s time we normalize talking about our mental health. Join the HHAY Pledge here.
